With results lasting up to five months, it can actually work out more cost effective than spending money on the latest anti wrinkle cream or anti wrinkle eye creams that do not work. Wrinkles cannot be treated on the skins surface, because wrinkles result from the over use of facial muscles, and so these muscles need to be treated with Anti Wrinkle Injections to eliminate and reduce facial lines. This treatment takes less than ten minutes, and is not painful. If you have any queries please call 01-667 8000 and we will be happy to arrange a consultation for you.

Botox Anti Wrinkle Injections
What areas can be treated?
A simple, non surgical procedure; Anti Wrinkle Injections are used to temporarily relax muscles mainly in the upper part of the face and around the eyes. If you have horizontal lines on your forehead, or wrinkles in between your eyebrows it is now possible to have these lines treated using this procedure which results in reduction or complete removal of facial lines. Lines and wrinkles make us look old and tired, and for many people nowadays this is not a look they wish to live with. Also if you are uncomfortable with the appearance of Crows Feet around your eyes, it is also possible to reduce or eliminate these lines with these anti ageing injections. This treatment can also be used to reduce the appearance of smokers’ lines around the mouth. What’s more, the use of Anti Wrinkle Injections results in the prevention of premature wrinkles, and the smoothing out of frown lines and wrinkles already present on the face & neck. The same product can also be used to treat medical conditions such as migraines, and excessive sweating particularly under the arms.
How do wrinkles develop?
It is important to understand that wrinkles and frown lines develop as a result of using facial muscles repeatedly throughout our life, with the skin creasing in areas of greatest use. Added to this, the ageing process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin, so that as we get older these lines become permanent and are present even when we are not frowning. In today’s society rife with baby boomers it seems that the elixir of youth is more sought after than ever before and luckily it is also more attainable than ever before using Anti Wrinkle Injections and Dermal Fillers.
How does this treatment work?
By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. In the areas treated, the muscles are temporarily inactivated (always reversible), during which time the patient can break the subconscious habit of over- using these muscles. Depending on each individual and the dose used, the response to treatment can vary from a relaxation of the muscles to removal of all lines in the area being treated.
How was this treatment discovered?
In use since 1978, this product was initially used as a treatment for patients with eye squints by weakening the overactive eye muscle. Since then, it has been used in a variety of therapeutic areas such as blepharospasm associated with dystonia, multiple sclerosis, migraines, persistent headaches, stroke, facial spasm, Parkinson’s disease and cerebral palsy, to name but a few. A firmly established drug within the medical arena for the past three decades, more recently the use of this product for cosmetic therapy has become widespread. The use of chemical denervation products to assist patients in lessening the visible appearance of skin ageing is now very common practice.
What are the side effects of this treatment?
Side effects of this treatment are rare but occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow can occur. This may last a few weeks, but will always resolve. Special eye drops can be prescribed during this time to help lift the lid back into the normal position. Other side effects can include bruising and minor swelling at site of injection. Before having Anti Wrinkle Treatment at DermaFACE you will need to be assessed for your suitability for treatment. If you do not have facial lines or wrinkles you will not receive treatment at our clinic. In addition all side effects will be discussed with you in detail at consultation. You will on arrival at the clinic need to complete a medical questionnaire, if any of your medical history flags any additional queries than we will at consultation dial straight through to Allergan Medical Help Line to check any contra indications relating to your personal medical history. At DermaFACE we take great pride in our medical protocols and patient care both before and after treatment. Please note that on your DermaFACE consent form there is a full listing of all side effects and your treating clinician will ask for your patience and full co-operation while they explain these to you.
Is it a toxin?
Until recently, there have been many myths surrounding Anti Wrinkle Treatments; with some people asking is it toxic? This substance is used in such small diluted doses that it is in no way toxic. If you went to hospital after having a cardiac arrest you would be given many drugs in their diluted form. These same life saving drugs, if not diluted, could potentially kill you.
Does it hurt?
At DermaFACE our patients constantly comment on how gentle our clinicians are, please see our testimonial section. In addition these treatments are administered through diabetic injection needles. The same needles, that adult and child diabetic patients use to inject themselves, with their daily insulin. At DermaFACE we simply don’t do pain, so you can expect a very gentle treatment that does not hurt if you attend our clinic and the treatment will take just a few minutes.
How long does it take for the treatment to work and how
long does it last?
The full effects of the treatment can be noticed in 3-14 days. Depending on the area treated, dose used and how the patient responds to this treatment. Repeat treatments will be required around every 4-6 months if you wish to maintain and potentially improve upon the initial cosmetic look achieved. For the first couple of years, twice yearly treatments are required in order to re-educate the facial muscles.
Thereafter, treatments become less frequent until a yearly maintenance treatment is normally all that is required. After just 2/3 treatments the effect lasts longer and some patients report needing to attend just once a year.
What is the science behind these treatments?
These procedures effectively treat over-active muscles and also soften the lines that result from these hyperactive muscles. This Anti Wrinkle treatment inhibits the release of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine from the nerve terminals. The horizontal and vertical wrinkles that are present between our eyebrows in the glabellar region are successfully relaxed by injecting the nearby muscles and so the visible signs of ageing are greatly reduced in this area. Crows feet are as a result of the blinking and squinting which cause the overlying skin to wrinkle. Bunny lines can also be treated; these bunny lines form over the top of the nose and a due to the contraction of the underlying muscle.
How long has this product been used in medicine?

Is it OK for me to go to my beautician for Anti Wrinkle
Injections or Fillers?
Absolutely NOT beauty therapists are not qualified to carry out these treatments! Also you can be sure that beauty salons do not have the medical equipment necessary to deal with any medical emergencies even something as minor as a mild faint. In addition beauty salons cannot offer post treatment care nor answer post treatment queries as beauticians are not trained nor qualified in this field. The product used in Anti Wrinkle Injections is only available on prescription from dentists and doctors. Also if Dermal Filler is being used to treat lips or the lower part of the face some dental anaesthetic is required for total comfort, and a beautician should NOT be administering dental injections. Only dentists & dental hygienists (under the supervision of a dentist) are allowed give dental block. Some doctors may undergo additional training in dental anaesthesia. Also these Anti Wrinkle Treatments and Dermal/Lip Fillers need to be carried out in a clean sterile clinical environment which has been set up with HSE guideline clinical cross infection control protocols. DermaFACE does not support the administration of Anti Wrinkle Injections, Dermal/Lip Filler or Medical Strength Chemical Peels by non-medically trained persons. Our clinical team are Irish Registered practitioners, who are Harley Street trained in Facial Aesthetics. In fact our clinical director is so concerned by non-medics carrying out these treatments that she is currently preparing a proposal for the Irish government calling for closer monitoring/regulation of this industry, to eliminate the dangers & bad press created by non-medically trained persons performing facial aesthetic treatments.
What happens during treatment?
The procedure takes about 5 to 10 minutes. The Doctor will ask you to use certain muscles of the face and observe them in action. An extremely fine, short needle is used to inject the appropriate area. This can in some instances cause some minor swelling, which normally resolves in an hour or two, although we have carried out so many of these treatments at DermaFACE that most patients leave 10 minutes after treatment without even a red mark visible. The treatment normally starts to take effect after 3 to 14 days, but this may vary slightly with some individuals. The effects will normally last between 4 and 5 months.
What can be done if I get an unwanted side effect?
Side effects of this treatment are rare. Occasionally a temporary drooping of the eyelid can occur. This may last a few weeks, but will always resolve. Special eye drops can be prescribed during this time to help lift the lid back into the normal position. In extremely rare cases patients have developed an allergy to the treatment, while others have shown resistance, i.e. it causes little or no effect on the treated muscles. As with any needle that breaks the skin, there is automatically a risk of swelling, bruising, infection. It is necessary to attend a specialist clinic such as DermaFACE to minimize the risk of any side affects. In the unlikely event that you do experience an unwanted side effect our team are on hand to look after you. If you have any post operative queries please phone the clinic during opening hours or the on-call mobile that is for patients of the clinic only.
When and how long until I can see the effects
of Anti Wrinkle Injections?
The initial effects of treatment become visible in 48-72 hours. The maximum effect is reached after 14 days. Your facial expression will become more relaxed, and at DermaFACE we believe in the ‘less is more approach’ to achieve a natural result. The effect of treatment normally lasts for 4-6 months. Re-treatment is then necessary if you wish to maintain the result.
What are the exact areas that can get treated with
Anti Wrinkle Injections?
Anti Wrinkle injections are used to treat lines in the upper part of the face. There are three main areas that can be treated with Anti Wrinkle Injections. The first area is just above and between the eyebrows known as the Glabella (Area 1). The second area is the Forehead (Area 2). The third area suitable for treatment with Anti Wrinkle Injections is the Crows Feet at the side of the eyes (Area 3). Please note that Glabella (Area 1) and Crows Feet (Area 3) can be treated in isolation, at the cost of a single area, the Forehead (Area 2) requires the Glabella (Area 1) to be treated first which means that treating the Forehead is at the fee schedule of a 2 Area treatment.
What can I do for lines around my mouth,
is this treatment suitable or should I get dermal filler?
While Anti Wrinkle Injections give great results in the upper one third of the face. Dermal filler is ideal for adding volume to lips, and minimising wrinkles in the lower part of the face including lines around the mouth. We offer local anaesthetic dental freeze at NO EXTRA COST for maximum comfort when getting lip filler.
